The Chennault Aviation & Military Museum will host Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day Thursday, March 30 as the community honors the brave sacrifices of our military veterans. The museum will have an open house for visitors (9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) and a ceremony at 11:00 am. Texas Roadhouse will provide complimentary lunch for veterans & visitors at noon.
This national recognition day established by the U.S. Senate in 2011, honors Vietnam veterans & offers the “welcome home” many never received. Veterans will be recognized for their service & will also be encouraged to share stories. The museum is the ideal destination for visitors to show their appreciation to our veterans & learn about the sacrifices our troops made during Vietnam.
On March 30, 1973, all U.S. troops withdrew from Vietnam. Unlike past World Wars, there were no ticker-tape parades honoring veterans, or triumphant marches or speeches. America’s Vietnam veterans returned home to silence, or worse, in some cases to denigration for having served their country during a politically controversial war. More than 58,000 members of the United States Armed Forces lost their lives & over 300,000 were wounded. Now, communities across the country participate in this special day to show unified gratitude for our veterans’ service & sacrifices.
